TORTOLA – Jan. 26, 2017 – O’Neal Webster is pleased to announce that Partner Vanessa King has been elected to the board of directors of BVI Finance Limited (BVIFL), formerly BVI Finance, for a term of three years. She has been an active ambassador in the mission of BVIFL and was appointed in 2016 to the interim board of BVI Finance to oversee its transition to a private company.
“I look forward to serving with the new BVIFL board,” says Ms. King, head of O’Neal Webster’s Commercial Department. “In coordination with Government and industry members, we will work to ensure the BVI remains internationally competitive and leads in innovative financial services products.”
BVIFL was incorporated as a private company limited by guarantee on December 30, 2016, with the objective to promote BVI financial services and business development in a public/private partnership. The framework, approved by Cabinet in Dec. 2016, will allow BVIFL to maintain its independence while playing a crucial role in the Government’s ongoing “BVI Forward” programme to strengthen and promote the financial services industry through developing new business opportunities and facilitating legislative, regulatory, and product changes.
BVIFL’s membership consists of BVI law firms, financial services licensed entities, and industry organizations. The newly elected board is comprised of four members serving for three years, three members serving for two years, and two members serving for one year.
Ms. King’s legal practice is focused on corporate, project, and property finance; joint ventures; corporate restructuring; BVI trusts; and general banking and corporate law. Her client base covers the world’s major financial centres and includes leading financial institutions, law firms, trust companies, and individuals. She is recognized for her expertise by Legal500, Chambers and Partners, IFLR1000, and CityWealth IFC, and is the 2016 recipient of the prestigious Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Founder’s Award for her outstanding contributions. She is the Chair of STEP BVI, a member of the BVI Financial Services Institute Advisory Council, the BVI Bar Association, and the Financial Services Business Development Committee of the Premier’s Office.
